What You’ll Need to Sew Hermey

Fabric
Denim fabric, fine linen or cotton (We used slightly stretchy denim, as it manages better when stuffing the toy, but fine linen or cotton will also work well):

  • 15″ (40 cm) if the fabric is 60″ (150 cm) wide
  • 18″ (45 cm) if the fabric is 45″ (110 cm) wide

Thread
As we sewed Hermey with denim fabric, we used navy blue thread for the belly lines (shown in panel A) and light grey thread for the eyebrows, blow holes and the rest of the whale.

Haberdashery
• Toy stuffing
• 2x 12 mm glass eyes, safety eyes or black or navy buttons
• Tear-away backing (optional, but recommended for when stitching the belly lines, eyebrows and blow holes)

Tools
• Sewing machine (preferably with a zigzag stitch feature)
• Needle
• Rotary cutter or pinking scissors
• Iron
• Fabric pen, chalk or pencil
• Pins / Wonder clips / weights
• A wooden point turner
